Cheek Definition
Cheeks are a very popular area for rejuvenation. In our youth we are blessed with full, plump and firm cheeks. This is due to the facial substructure known as the Malar fat pad. This is a deposit of fatty tissue that creates the appearance of our cheeks.
When we are young, the Malar fat pad wits high on our face, just below the eyes and creates smooth, beautiful cheeks. As we age, the Malar fat pad starts to descend. The early signs that the Malar fat pad is descending is often the appearance of our eyes. We start to see some hollowing below our eyes and possibly dark circles appear. As the ageing process continues and the Malar fat pad descends further, we see the formation of deeper nasolabial folds (the line from the corner of our nose to the corner of our mouth), followed by marionette lines (from the corner of the mouth to the jawline) and eventually finishing as jowls or sagging skin on our jawline. It might be inevitable, but it all sounds pretty terrible right!
The good news is that we are now able to slow the descension of the Malar fat pad and mask the visible signs of this process. Using dermal fillers, we can augment the Malar fat pad in our cheeks to maintain or recreate the appearance of our cheeks during our youth. Further, the dermal filling products and injection techniques have advanced to the point where we are also able to create structures that may not have previously existed. We can create the appearance of defined cheek-bones and shape the face more aesthetically and more symmetrically to produce a level of beauty that not only looks amazing, but perfectly natural. The products are very safe, completely reversible and affordable. Results last anywhere from 6months to 2 years depending on the product used and concern treated.
